Peter Snakebite Wright Makes Winning Start in 2023 PDC World Darts Championship
Wright Defends Title with Confidence
Peter "Snakebite" Wright, the reigning PDC World Darts Champion, made a winning start to his title defense on Tuesday, December 20, 2023. Wright defeated Ryan Meikle 3-1 in the first round of the 2023 Cazoo PDC World Darts Championship in London's Alexandra Palace.
Solid Performance from Wright
Wright looked sharp in his opening match, averaging 98.41 and hitting four 180s. He took the first set comfortably 3-0 before Meikle fought back to win the second set 3-1. However, Wright regained his composure and took the next two sets 3-1 and 3-0 to seal the victory.
"It was a good start," said Wright after the match. "I'm happy with my performance. I've been working hard in practice, and it's paying off." Wright, who has been struggling with form in recent months, admitted that he was pleased to get a win under his belt. "It's given me a bit of confidence going forward," he said.
Tough Path to the Final
Wright has a tough path to the final, with potential matches against Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, and Jonny Clayton looming. However, the Scot is confident in his abilities. "I'm not scared of anyone," he said. "I believe I can beat anyone on my day." Wright will next face Englishman Ryan Searle in the second round on Thursday, December 22, 2023.
