Messi Injured in Copa America Final
Argentina Captain Forced Off With Ankle Injury
Messi was forced off with an apparent right ankle injury in the second half of Argentina's 1-0 Copa América final win over Colombia at Miamis Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.
The Barcelona star was left in tears after suffering the injury in a challenge with Colombian defender Yerry Mina. Messi was able to continue playing for a few minutes but was eventually replaced by Ángel Correa in the 66th minute.
Argentina went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ángel Di María in the 22nd minute. The victory gave Argentina their first major title since 1993.
Messi's injury is a major blow to Argentina as they prepare for the 2022 World Cup. The 34-year-old is one of the best players in the world and his absence would be a huge loss for the team.
