Indian And Black Children

Two Medical Students at the End of Their Journey

A Journey of Resilience and Determination

As the year 2019 drew to a close, Ithra and Tumelo, both 24 years old, stood at the cusp of completing their final year of medical school at Wits University. Their journey had been one of immense resilience and determination, marked by both challenges and triumphs.

Inspired by History

As Ithra and Tumelo delved into their studies, they drew inspiration from the words of historian Alaina E. Roberts. In her book "I've Been Here All the While: Black Freedom on Native Land," Roberts documented the struggles and triumphs of African Americans seeking education in the midst of adversity.

A Global Encounter

Like many students at Wits University, Ithra and Tumelo hailed from diverse backgrounds. Ithra's family had roots in India, while Tumelo's family called South Africa home. Their paths had converged amidst the bustling corridors of medical school, creating a bond that transcended cultural boundaries.

Overcoming Challenges

Medical school presented both Ithra and Tumelo with numerous challenges. They faced long hours of study, demanding clinical rotations, and the relentless pressure to excel academically. Yet, through it all, they supported and encouraged one another, forming a formidable study team.

Dreams on the Horizon

As they approached graduation, Ithra and Tumelo eagerly anticipated the future. Their dreams of becoming skilled and compassionate physicians fueled their determination to make a lasting impact in the world of healthcare.

A Bond That Will Endure

Beyond their shared academic journey, Ithra and Tumelo had forged a deep and enduring friendship. Their mutual respect for one another's cultures, their shared experiences, and their unwavering support had created a bond that would extend far beyond the walls of medical school.

As they embarked on the next chapter of their lives, Ithra and Tumelo carried with them the lessons they had learned, the friendships they had formed, and the unwavering belief that together, they could make a meaningful difference in the world.
